2BHospitality has been supporting Dogs, Inc. (formerly Southeastern Guide Dogs) for several years with our pup patties for our dog guests. For every patty sold, we donate $2 to Dogs, Inc. Read further to learn more about Dogs, Inc. and their mission.

Dogs Inc. Overview:

Founded in 1982, Dogs Inc. has a rich history of providing specialized working dogs to individuals across the United States. Originally named Southeastern Guide Dogs, the organization rebranded to Dogs Inc. to reflect their national service reach and the wide variety of assistance dogs they provide. While their beginnings were rooted in training guide dogs for the visually impaired, today, Dogs Inc. offers dogs that serve various roles, including supporting veterans, helping Gold Star families with grief, and even aiding law enforcement in specialized cases like child exploitation investigations.

Facility and Operations:

  • The Dogs Inc. campus spans 66 acres, and all expansion projects are fully funded before construction begins—ensuring that they operate without any debt or mortgages.
  • The facility is state-of-the-art, providing the best care for both the dogs and their handlers. This includes a team of three full-time veterinarians and vet technicians dedicated to the health of the dogs.

Dog Matching and Training Program:

  • Every person paired with a dog undergoes an extensive matching and training process. Individuals live on-site for several weeks to bond with their dog and receive specialized training to ensure a perfect match for their needs.
  • The support doesn’t end when the training is complete—Dogs Inc. continues to follow up with clients 60-90 days after placement and offers yearly visits to ensure long-term success.
  • All dogs receive free, lifelong care, covering everything from regular check-ups to advanced veterinary services.

Breeding Program:

  • Dogs Inc. has transitioned to exclusively breeding Labradors, having previously bred Lab-Golden Retriever mixes.
  • They have a dedicated colony of breeding dogs, and individuals within 75 miles of the facility can foster these dogs as pets.
  • Females are bred up to four times, and males up to ten times, with each pair only being bred together once to prevent genetic issues.
  • A specialized genetics team carefully monitors each breeding to maintain and improve the quality of their dogs, continually refining for intelligence, temperament, and health. For instance, they have successfully bred out common health issues like hip dysplasia, ensuring a healthier lineage of working dogs.

Puppy Raising and Development:

Nice to meet you!
  • Before entering formal training, puppies spend their first year with a foster family. These families help socialize the puppies and prepare them for their future roles.
  • Puppies at Dogs Inc. are initially referred to simply as “puppy” or “pup pup” and are identified by their birth order or collar color. The honor of naming the puppy is given to the foster families who care for them for a year.
  • Dogs Inc. begins monitoring puppies as early as one week old, assessing behavior and addressing potential issues before they become problematic.
  • Weekend fostering is available for puppies before they go to their full-time foster families.

Specialized Training and Care:

  • Dogs are never forced into a role—they “choose” their careers based on their temperament and abilities.
  • The facility uses cutting-edge treatments, including a hyperbaric chamber to stimulate neurogenesis and promote overall health.
  • Aromatherapy, ultrasound therapy, and “lick sticks” (frozen treats used for training and motivation) are part of the dogs’ comprehensive care.
  • After completing four weeks of physiotherapy, dogs move into more specific training based on their assessed career path.

Unique Contributions:

  • Some dogs have even been placed with firefighters and police departments to assist in finding digital evidence, such as hidden hard drives in criminal cases.

Dogs, Inc. is dedicated to providing service animals to various people and groups throughout the United States. 2BHospitality is proud to be a sponsor of their valuable efforts.
